Scientists also guided farmers to cultivate paddy by Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) and Direct dry seeding methods to save the water. They also suggested cultivation of irrigated dry crops like Maize, Red gram, Cotton, Vegetables in Rabi season which increases water use efficiency. Drip method of irrigation or fertigation in addition to mulching in vegetable cultivation is advocated for increased yield and water use efficiency. Furrow method of irrigation in irrigated dry crops, construction of contour bunds (tillage across the slope), cultivation of inter crops and construction of rain water harvesting structures at field level suggested for conservation of water.
